An outstanding choir director, church composer, arranger, and teacher.
Archimandrite of the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius.
From 1961, typikon-keeper and senior choir director of the Holy Trinity–St Sergius Lavra choir, conductor of the combined choir of the Trinity–St Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Schools.

He is considered one of the most influential masters of Orthodox church singing of the second half of the 20th and the early 21st centuries. He created a unique Lavra choral sound that gained worldwide recognition.
